From the gallery to the shop: when art becomes a product

By ProxySys1 min read

The DevQuake art gallery is where members show their digital art, each work with the idea behind it. The DevQuake shop sells DevQuake’s own products. We are connecting the two: in time, some of the most appreciated works in the gallery may also appear on selected products in the shop.

How a work can become a design

  • The artist decides. Each work has its own choice: only works whose artists have agreed are ever considered.
  • We choose among the most appreciated. DevQuake picks designs from the agreed works that the gallery’s community values most: likes, likes from other artists, and visits.
  • Buyers personalise. On a product that offers designs, a buyer picks one and sees a preview of how it will look.
  • Credit where it is due. Every product names its artist and carries the DevQuake name.

What the artist keeps

  • The copyright stays with the artist. DevQuake receives only the right to print the design on the products concerned, for as long as agreed.
  • Artists whose designs are sold may receive a share of the proceeds, under terms agreed with them in advance.
  • Visitors only ever see a watermarked copy of a work; the original is used only to print an ordered product.

What happens next

This is being built now. Before the first product carries a design, the terms for artists will be published and each artist will choose, work by work, whether to take part. Until then, nothing changes for your works.

Designs on products and any share of the proceeds are subject to separate terms agreed with each artist; this post is not a promise of sales or earnings.
