Shared shopping lists that keep the whole household in sync

By Lorant Alexandru Kurazs1 min read

Who has not come home with a second bag of flour because nobody knew the first one was already bought? Shared shopping lists were one of the first DevQuake apps, built for exactly that.

A list for each shopping day

Instead of one endless list, you plan a list for each shopping day. A calendar shows your lists by week, month or year, so you can see at a glance what is planned for Saturday and what is still open from Wednesday.

Products with quantity, price and store

Each product can have a quantity, a unit price and the store you buy it in. On the day you shop, products are grouped by store, so you walk through one shop at a time instead of jumping around the list.

Shop together

Invite your family, flatmates or friends with a link, a code or a QR code. Everyone sees the same list. When someone ticks a product in the shop, the others see it, so nobody buys it twice.

See where the money goes

Because products can carry a price, the app shows spending statistics: how much you spent, and where. It is a simple way to notice when the weekly shop is slowly getting more expensive.

Works with the meal planner

If you plan your meals with the DevQuake meal planner, you can turn a whole week of meals into one shopping list with a single action, after you connect the two apps in your account.

Tips from our own kitchen

  • Create the list for the weekend shop on Thursday, and let everyone add to it until Friday evening.
  • Use the store grouping even if you shop in one place: grouping by aisle-like stores (bakery, market, supermarket) makes the walk shorter.
  • Look at the statistics once in a while. Small changes add up.
