My vault: private notes that stay private, and a careful way to pass them on
By Lorant Alexandru Kurazs1 min read
Some information is too important to lose and too private to leave lying around: account details for the family, where the important papers are, a letter for later. My vault is a calm, careful place for exactly that.
Encrypted before it leaves your device
Everything you store is encrypted in your browser, with your vault key and three questions only you can answer. What reaches our server is already encrypted. That means we cannot read your entries, and neither can anyone who might get access to the server.
The other side of that promise is important too: if you forget your vault key and the answers, we cannot recover your entries for you. Keep the key somewhere safe.
Passing things on, carefully
You can choose people you trust as recipients for an entry. They do not get anything while you use DevQuake. Only if you stop using it for the quiet period you choose do they receive access to the entries meant for them.
Every try is recorded
Every attempt to open an entry is logged, and wrong answers lock the entry. You always know if someone tried.
Practical ways to use it
- A short note for your family: where the important documents are and who to call.
- Instructions for shared household accounts.
- Personal letters you want to reach someone one day.
My vault also offers suggested entry types for things like car papers and health information, so you know what is worth writing down.
